YouTube launches 5 Year Anniversary Celebration Page

YouTube has launched a new channel in celebration for its five year anniversary this month. The channel is a host to many user submitted videos discussing how YouTube has changed their life over the past 5 years, and how it’s affected their use of social networking sites and internet media in general.

You can find the channel called YouTube FiveYear with just over 10,000 subscribers already, and growing quickly. The amount of user submitted content is enormous, and all this growth comes at just the right time. It’s also been announced that YouTube has officially reached 2 billion impressions a day.

Social Media Examiner: The Online Magazine for Social Media Tips

The transformation from the blogging era has already begun, as more and more people are learning how to start up their own online press. Now dubbed by many as online magazines, running your own personal blog isn’t hard these days. Finding writers and getting a design together is the hardest part, and once you’re set you can jump right in to launch your magazine venture!

I’ve recently been visiting Social Media Examiner quite a bit. From what I can tell the magazine holds a lot of promise, already holding a solid 20k+ feed subscribers and having most articles hit in the hundreds of ReTweets.

Social News Website for Financial Articles and Tips at Tip’d

You don’t find many great social news websites these days. You know, the kind that let you vote on stories and the most popular hit the front page? Digg and Reddit are still pretty good, and there are a few nice Pligg sites out there but overall not too many.

Well a few months ago I ran into an amazing site, Tip’d.com. Based on the Pligg CMS, it runs similar to Digg but for social news on finances. Average front-page stories hit anywhere from 10-14 votes, which shows just how active the community really is.

The Newest Trending Social News Sharing Community Humsurfer

It’s difficult these days to track down the best social news sharing communities. There are the classics such as Digg and Reddit, and also smaller niche communities containing topics like design and programming.

Humsurfer is a new community, still running in Beta but holding strong with a PR3 and Alexa Ranking of 1,600. The Humsurfer community is a social news and media sharing community for Indians, very similar to what IndianPad promotes. But with a growing userbase and such an inviting site design, Humsurfer may be claiming this throne.

Behind the Scenes at Watch-Series.com: Free TV Series Streaming Online

I have to admit, I hate TV. It’s something that most people base their entire schedule around, without even realizing it. You want to be in front of it by 8PM for your Monday night line-up, or on Sunday’s you enjoy marathons of your favorite shows. It’s not to say this doesn’t work for some people, but it definitely doesn’t work for me.

I found Watch Series a couple of months ago when I was looking for a few shows to watch online. I have found every other show I’ve wanted to watch straight from the site, and they have a HUGE library to choose from and search. I got an awesome interview with the site’s founder and Admin, Petreus Dumitru. Check out his responses below.

CypherBox.net – Great Pligg-based PR4 Social Bookmarking Site

I just want to say, I absolutely love Pligg. It’s an amazing PHP script, free to download which allows you to set up your own social news site similar to Digg. Many micro-niche sites have popped up running on Pligg’s backend, and CypherBox is my latest find.

CypherBox is a Google PageRank 4, which is huge for social bookmarking sites. Not only that, but every link on the page is DoFollow – this means Google passes on PR4 juice to each link you submit! This can greatly impact a new website or blog if you know how to use this system right, and CypherBox is only growing.

Rumors of Yahoo! Taking Down MyBlogLog could be False

Starting around December I had seen a lot of blogs posting about Yahoo! considering closing the doors on MyBlogLog. I was sad to hear this news, as I have been a huge fan of MyBlogLog since it first launched in 2005. It was a simple community of bloggers with a simple goal of uniting the best writers and bloggers on the web.

In 2007 Yahoo! bought out the company for a cool $10 million, a swift deal if I do say so myself. MyBlogLog has only grown in popularity since then, closing in on hitting about 300,000 members and ranking with a solid PR7 and Alexa Rank of 1,344. News of Yahoo! closing the site was not only sad, but also very unorthodox: why shut down MyBlogLog when it’s still bringing in so many pageviews and visits daily?
