iPhone Google Search to be Replaced by Bing Search

Interesting news surfaced today regarding Microsoft’s Bing Search to be the leading search engine placed on Apple’s newest iPhone’s. Previously running through Google’s search, it appears TechCrunch has some news and further sources who have regarded the credibility of Microsoft taking over the search. The news seems very good for Microsoft as trying to compete against Google as a major search engine is not an easy thing to do.

I’m a bit of a skeptic to this news. I’ve been using an iPhone for the past year or so, and it is one of the most intuitive interfaces I’ve ever run. I don’t know how Bing is going to run on the OS, as I’ve always been a huge fan of Google. In fact, I sort of expect to be searching through Google in almost any app.

Netvibes runs your Online Dashboard for Social News and Media Updates

Netvibes is an amazing startup application founded back in 2005. It allows you to create a personal dashboard which you can log into, and from your account page you can set up whatever content you’d like to see. Aggregated RSS feeds, real-time tweets and trending topics, e-mails, podcasts, and a whole lot more. It’s a revolution of social media and networking!

It’s an interesting application, to say the least. It has many features you don’t find on other social apps, and it allows combination of information like never before. I haven’t seen any mobile implementation as of yet, though I would like to see an app for the iPhone come out.

Google’s New Search Results Design goes Live

Google has made some major design changes over the past 10 or 20 years. Although their overall vision hasn’t changed much, they’ve added new features and design ideas to the site. Just recently they’ve launched their newest addition to Google with their new search listings design.

You can tell just from Google’s homepage that something’s different. The buttons and search bar look completely new and improved, along with some updates to their logo with added glossy and “web 2.0″ effects. Although not a new feature, Google has kept with the Ajax loading of header and footer links on the page for faster load times.

How Metacafe Stacks up against Video Streaming Apps

It’s no doubt when it comes to social media and web video, YouTube takes the cake. Currently within top 5 Alexa rank and also owned by the #1 search engine and website online, YouTube has everything backing it. Google doesn’t control the monopoly though, there are so many cool video streaming services out there each with their own to offer.

Metacafe has shown substantial promise and growth since it’s initial launch in 2003. I’ve been a fan of the site for a while, and ever since they released features to help video publishers make money with original content I’ve loved the site. It’s a brilliant business concept and it’s grown on very quickly.

Jay Adelson Steps Down as CEO of Digg.com

In a recent blog post entitled simply “Update from Jay“, it has been officially announced that Jay Adelson will be stepping down as Digg’s CEO after 5 prosperous and amazing years. Jay has done an amazing job as CEO, and I firmly believe Digg wouldn’t hold it’s current success status today if it wasn’t for his ideas and inspiration.

Although Jay doesn’t state any specific reasons for this choice, he does have virtue and motive to do so. As quoted FTA, “With the new Digg getting ready to launch, Digg Ads doing well, our sales force growing, our hiring ramping, and the company maturing well beyond its startup phase, I feel that now is the right time.”

Author Information and Photo now Displayed After each Post

Yep, I finally decided to add some of those updates I had planned on rolling out so long ago! I’ve been meaning to add author info to the posts on Inside the Webb for a while, just haven’t had time. Well I finally found some time, and I’m glad I did!

I really like the box style and how neatly they fit right after posts. It only took about 15-20 minutes messing around with Wordpress theme files and CSS styles to get it looking how it does now. Even though I am the only author on board now, in the future I plan on running with many different writers. This gives them a chance to really express what they’re about, and give the reader an in-depth look.

Either way this was an update long overdue. I’m hoping to roll out a few secret updates in the near future, as this is just one of many to come! I hope you all like it, and share your ideas with me about what you’d like to see in Inside the Webb.

CypherBox.net – Great Pligg-based PR4 Social Bookmarking Site

I just want to say, I absolutely love Pligg. It’s an amazing PHP script, free to download which allows you to set up your own social news site similar to Digg. Many micro-niche sites have popped up running on Pligg’s backend, and CypherBox is my latest find.

CypherBox is a Google PageRank 4, which is huge for social bookmarking sites. Not only that, but every link on the page is DoFollow – this means Google passes on PR4 juice to each link you submit! This can greatly impact a new website or blog if you know how to use this system right, and CypherBox is only growing.
