Blogs.com Showcases the Best in Blogs on the Web via RSS Feeds

Many web developers and internet entrepreneur’s know of Six Apart, the amazing design studio who has done work with many popular startups, notably Movable Type and Typepad. A fantastic project they’ve been working on has recently grabbed my attention, found simply at http://www.blogs.com/.

The concept for the site is numbingly simple – create a catalog of the best blogs from many topics, and then syndicate their RSS feeds to show their latest posts. Categories range from business, celebrities, gaming, tech, and really anything you can think of! The front page is chosen by selected editors who work on the site, and inclusion in the network is as simple as submitting your site.

Design blogs have become the de-facto of the internet revolution over the past 2-3 years. As web design has shot off and every 16 year old and their mother has started to learn XHTML/CSS, blogging about it has just become another step in the process. DesignM.ag is one of the most popular, sharing free tutorials and graphics frequently in their posts. As of April 5 the site has been put up for auction.

Currently listed at the popular website auction & flipping service Flippa.com, you can view how much the site is going for currently and traffic statistics of the blog. And I will say they are some impressive numbers, ranging just under 800k pageviews last month.

Utilizing DesignMoo for Social Media Traffic to your Design Blog

For all of you running a design blog out there, DesignMoo is a site you’re going to want to bookmark. As I’m sure we all know of Digg’s popularity, this has caused many smaller sites to spawn offspring and grow into micro-niche Digg sites. DesignMoo is one of these style of sites for graphic and web design, and can bring in a lot of traffic to your blog.

Though it doesn’t bring in as much traffic as Digg, it is still a very powerful social media source where you can draw traffic to your blog. And with so much competition these days for graphic and web design blogs, who can argue with a little free publicity?

Author Information and Photo now Displayed After each Post

Yep, I finally decided to add some of those updates I had planned on rolling out so long ago! I’ve been meaning to add author info to the posts on Inside the Webb for a while, just haven’t had time. Well I finally found some time, and I’m glad I did!

I really like the box style and how neatly they fit right after posts. It only took about 15-20 minutes messing around with Wordpress theme files and CSS styles to get it looking how it does now. Even though I am the only author on board now, in the future I plan on running with many different writers. This gives them a chance to really express what they’re about, and give the reader an in-depth look.

Either way this was an update long overdue. I’m hoping to roll out a few secret updates in the near future, as this is just one of many to come! I hope you all like it, and share your ideas with me about what you’d like to see in Inside the Webb.

How Your Compete Rank can Directly Affect your Blog

Mostly all internet marketers are aware of what Google’s PageRank is. Ranking pages on a scale of 0-10 based on the amount of backlinks, and the quality of those links. Compete works in a very similar way to Alexa, where it ranks different site’s positions in the grand scheme of thinks. Now with Alexa Ranking the lower the better, and the same goes for Compete Ranking.

But just what can Compete offer? I’m not going to claim they’re another statistic you really need to focus on, but they are out there and advertisers do consider Compete when it comes to pricing. So it can’t hurt to have a decent Compete rank, and could even net you some extra dough in ads.

Today I want to bring up a few facts about gaming websites. I have run a Kingdom Hearts gaming community website Destiny Islands for well over 2 years now with one of my closest friends. We’ve put in hours of days of weeks of work into it, and by also observing how similar website’s are run I’ve learned a lot. Not only about being a webmaster, but marketing and developing a healthy, happy community online.
