How Foursquare and Location-Based Social Networks are Changing the Internet

A few years ago everybody was worrying about the internet carrying an “information overload”. Many people were afraid of the internet collecting information about everyone, turning it into a global database with all the information in the world held in it – in the wrong hands, this could be dangerous.

I am of the belief this is the wrong way to consider things, and with the amazing success of Foursquare as a location-based check-in service, sharing information with your friends has never been easier. Combined with Twitter, your friends can now follow what you’re doing and where you are at all times of the day!

The Newest Trending Social News Sharing Community Humsurfer

It’s difficult these days to track down the best social news sharing communities. There are the classics such as Digg and Reddit, and also smaller niche communities containing topics like design and programming.

Humsurfer is a new community, still running in Beta but holding strong with a PR3 and Alexa Ranking of 1,600. The Humsurfer community is a social news and media sharing community for Indians, very similar to what IndianPad promotes. But with a growing userbase and such an inviting site design, Humsurfer may be claiming this throne.

Behind the Scenes at Watch-Series.com: Free TV Series Streaming Online

I have to admit, I hate TV. It’s something that most people base their entire schedule around, without even realizing it. You want to be in front of it by 8PM for your Monday night line-up, or on Sunday’s you enjoy marathons of your favorite shows. It’s not to say this doesn’t work for some people, but it definitely doesn’t work for me.

I found Watch Series a couple of months ago when I was looking for a few shows to watch online. I have found every other show I’ve wanted to watch straight from the site, and they have a HUGE library to choose from and search. I got an awesome interview with the site’s founder and Admin, Petreus Dumitru. Check out his responses below.

Why Digg.com is heading for a Major Pitfall

I remember a time when Digg used to roam wild in the Social News kingdom. It was the force to be reckoned with when it came to internet marketing – everybody needed to hit the front page to gain some traffic to their site. I’m sure tons of blogs have built their popularity off of Digg’s massive traffic influx, but there are many signs pointing towards this site closing the lid.

Digg used to be a very popular website – I would frequent the site constantly to check out the greatest news, what was popular today, everything. Granted this was back in 2006 when the site was still relatively new, and I’ve been a Digger all way the way through 2008. However recently it seems as though Digg.com is taking a turn for the worst, and may need a lot of help recovering.

Interview with Yahoo! Answers Q&A Competitor Blurtit

Yahoo! Answers has to be the most well-known and popular Question & Community on the web. However there is always room for improvement on apps like these, and Blurtit takes the cake. Building more of a community around the idea of the “Ask Any Question” niche, Blurtit allows users to connect like never before, searching for the most popular questions and sharing knowledge between everyone.

Chris Lee is the co-founder of Blurtit, and he’s been nice enough to take some time and answer a few questions I’ve had about the application. It’s a revolutionary way to look at using the internet, and it’s a huge step towards universal knowledge and sharing thoughts. You can read more about Chris and his work at his blog, which features some very interested topics and ideas.

Check Your Username Availability on Tons of Websites with Namechk

Many of us enjoy sticking with our usernames. We sign up with the same username on multiple websites, and this is especially true with social networking/bookmarking sites as it allows your name to become a presence in the community. Only thing is, there’s so many people online that the chances of our username being take is, well, pretty decent.

I’m excited to say I found a pretty neat app the other day, namechk. Never fret about your username anymore! With namechk all you need to do is type in your username into a input field, and namechk will do all of the work to check against tons of social websites’ databases to see if your username is taken.
