iPhone Google Search to be Replaced by Bing Search

Interesting news surfaced today regarding Microsoft’s Bing Search to be the leading search engine placed on Apple’s newest iPhone’s. Previously running through Google’s search, it appears TechCrunch has some news and further sources who have regarded the credibility of Microsoft taking over the search. The news seems very good for Microsoft as trying to compete against Google as a major search engine is not an easy thing to do.

I’m a bit of a skeptic to this news. I’ve been using an iPhone for the past year or so, and it is one of the most intuitive interfaces I’ve ever run. I don’t know how Bing is going to run on the OS, as I’ve always been a huge fan of Google. In fact, I sort of expect to be searching through Google in almost any app.

Keep Up With your Digg Friends Submissions using Sub DiggerPlus

Digg is one of my, if not the #1 favorite social news site to date. Wracking up tens of millions of pageviews monthly, Digg, Inc. is a dominant force on the web which has only seen constant and substantial growth. Keeping up with your friend’s submissions on the site can get a bit tricky, but with Sub Digger+ the whole process is made very easy.

Once at the page, all you do is plug in your Digg username and hit “enter”. The app will take a few seconds to load, as it’s contacting Digg’s API and retrieving all of your friend’s latest submissions from the past 24 hrs. After a few moments of loading, you’ll be displayed with your first story and some more details in a toolbar below.

GeoTagging Network Foursquare Nears 1 Million Checkins Daily

The hugely popular social networking and geotagging solution FourSquare has been rising through the ranks over the past few months. Skyrocketing into popularity, the company’s official Twitter account @foursquare posted an update yesterday regarding the massive influx in updates.

In their excited tweet, it is mentioned that Foursquare is now passing a huge turning point in their success. Clearly more people are hopping on the geo-network bandwagon, and it’s catching on fast. Even with Facebook opening it’s doors to a geo-tagging app, Foursquare still seems to be growing by leaps and bounds.

Newest Pligg Venture BizSugar: Social News for Business

I’ve been an avid fan of Pligg CMS for a long time now. It’s an open source project, allowing anyone to download and run their own social news community similar to Digg and Reddit. I have my own case study for Pligg as well, and recently BizSugar has caught my attention.

The domain and brand of BizSugar has been included on “web 2.0 site” lists and directories for a long time now. However, the recent re-branding and marketing campaign done by the BizSugar team has launched the site into popularity. I’ve seen ads running on Digg, Mixx, and even Mashable among a few other popular sites.

Netvibes runs your Online Dashboard for Social News and Media Updates

Netvibes is an amazing startup application founded back in 2005. It allows you to create a personal dashboard which you can log into, and from your account page you can set up whatever content you’d like to see. Aggregated RSS feeds, real-time tweets and trending topics, e-mails, podcasts, and a whole lot more. It’s a revolution of social media and networking!

It’s an interesting application, to say the least. It has many features you don’t find on other social apps, and it allows combination of information like never before. I haven’t seen any mobile implementation as of yet, though I would like to see an app for the iPhone come out.

Google Releases the Official Google Buzz API

Google has finally released an official API with documentation for Google Buzz. In their blog post, DeWitt Clinton of Google’s Development Team went over a few of the new features available in the API and what developers can expect.

I appears as though a lot of work has gone into development, and releasing the code to developers allows for the customization of many Google Buzz apps. Buzz is going to see a surge of new traffic and influence over the web as a popular social media platform, which will help Google get the ball rolling again.
