I have to admit, I hate TV. It’s something that most people base their entire schedule around, without even realizing it. You want to be in front of it by 8PM for your Monday night line-up, or on Sunday’s you enjoy marathons of your favorite shows. It’s not to say this doesn’t work for some people, but it definitely doesn’t work for me.
I found Watch Series a couple of months ago when I was looking for a few shows to watch online. I have found every other show I’ve wanted to watch straight from the site, and they have a HUGE library to choose from and search. I got an awesome interview with the site’s founder and Admin, Petreus Dumitru. Check out his responses below.
For those who haven’t been to the site before, how does Watch.Series work?
Watch Series is a platform where you can find and watch all your favorite shows. We only gather links to third-party streaming websites like Youtube, Megavideo.com, and Wisevid.com. We have a small tutorial on how to watch videos on our website following this link.
The main idea here is to gather all the available links for every show so that you don’t need to visit 3-4 websites and lose time searching for them. Here you can request as well your favorite show that is not listed and we will try to fulfill your wish.
Can you explain a bit about how you got the idea for the website, and what it was like to first sit down and start building it?
I got the idea of Watch-Series about 2 years ago, when I first tried to find and watch a show online. In the beginning they were only YouTube links and some Chinese website like tudou.com, youku.com, and 56.com. But then appeared Megavideo and other video streaming apps, and very few sites like this one were then.
As an Administrator of Watch Series, can you brief us of what exactly you do for the site? Just take us through a typical day at Watch Series for you
The day begins with adding new episodes and links for the shows that are appearing in that day, promoting them to other websites. After that I have to add the links that are submitted by the visitors, and if everything is going well with no surprises (regarding the servers and the advertising on the website) I help my team in taking care of the broken links or adding new old shows that are requested by the visitors.
Watch-Series doesn’t host any of the video files on the server, everything is hosted on other websites. How do you find all of these different video links to share on the site?
Most of the links we’ve found the classic way: Google. There are some forums, and of course the users that are submitting a lot of links as well, but as well we have some website that are uploading daily all the new shows.
Unfortunately they don’t remove the broken or dead links.
It is clear that Watch.Series runs advertisements on the site. Can you share any advertising stats, if they pay the bills for the site and can you see making a profit running a video sharing website like Watch.Series?
It’s very hard to find an advertising company that pays well. Every company has the purpose to earn as much money as they can from you, so on the past couple of months we’ve tried many companies. The ones that we have now are, in this moment, the best ones for us.
Sure we have some problems in getting the money for them in time, and the help & support is not online most of the time, but the ads that they provide are virus free and the revenue is acceptable. But we still have to invest in servers and paying salaries.
What, if any, internet marketing work have you done for Watch Series (getting your link out there, sharing to Digg, StumbleUpon etc…)?
In the beginning there were some friends that help me in sharing our links, and other websites of this kind, until we discovered some submitting links websites. In the last couple of months we had a very good position on Google and most of the visitors that we have are coming back because they know they can rely on us on finding what are they looking for.
Is it difficult work maintaining the website in good health and keeping up with cleaning and upkeep?
Adding new episodes to the website is very easy, but keeping it clean with no broken links is the hard part. This takes up 99% or our time: checking the old ones and searching for new links. Let me give a simple example.
Glee is a new show that aired last year, and has 13 episodes. The links that we add to those 13 episodes are marked daily as dead, and daily we have to search for new ones. Not to mention the other shows like How I Met Your Mother which has 100 episodes.
What are some of your favorite shows or series on the website?
Most of my favorite shows are comedies: Two and a half men, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Big Bang Theory, etc. and crime and action series like Castle, Mentalist , Criminal Minds, CSI, a new show Human Target, FlashForward.
Where can you see Watch Series progressing a month from now? Or even a year from now?
We intend to bring to our visitors all the shows that we can find with as many good links as possible, and increasing our number of documentaries, sports, cartoons, and anime that are very few at the moment. Also adding new features that will help our visitors like RSS feeds, a Newsletter, a browser toolbar…
If you had any advice for someone starting their own video streaming website, what would it be?
From my experience, I would advise them to invest some time and money to create something different from what is available right now. Because right now there are quite a few websites, but if you find the right idea it will rise to the top very quickly. A little patience is required too, and a lot of work and dedication.

The most important part of this article to seriously burn in to your brain and never forget is that you need to find a good niche. Way too many people are doing just plain movie and tv shows sites now. Unless you are good at seo, I would use google keywords or learn to use it and do a specific cult following movie thats not coming out for a while, or find a niche tv show that isnt all over the place everywhere. Watch-series website is fantastic, we use it every day. But lately a serious bug has appeared: When you click on “Click Here to View All 223 Links Available”, instead of displaying more links, it makes all the links disappear!
